Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and browser storage to run the site, remember your cookie choices, measure visits and show ads. Non-essential cookies stay off until you choose in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie icon at the bottom of each page. Our Cookie Policy lists the cookies we use.
Advertising
Ads pay for our free games. Ads on our pages and in our web games are served by Google AdSense. Our Android and Windows apps, when they launch, will use Google AdMob.
- We block sensitive ad categories in AdSense, such as gambling, dating, alcohol and other adult themes, so that ads suit a general, family audience.
- In our apps, the maximum ad content rating will be set to G (General audiences).
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of many vendors’ personalized ads at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites and apps that use its services.
We show personalized ads only if you agree to advertising cookies in our cookie banner. If you do not agree, you still see ads, but they are not based on your browsing history. In our apps, ads will use your device’s advertising ID. You can reset or delete it in your device’s privacy settings. If we add another advertising partner, we will name it here before its ads go live.
Children
Our site and games are for a general audience and are suitable for all ages. They are not directed at children, but children may play them. There are no accounts, chat or sign-ups, and the games never ask for personal information. We filter ads so they are suitable for all ages.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Under POPIA a child is anyone under 18, and processing a child’s personal information needs the consent of a parent or guardian. In the United States, COPPA protects children under 13. Under the GDPR, the age of digital consent is between 13 and 16, depending on the country.
Our contact form, email address and Ko-fi page are for adults. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email play@appversegames.com and we will delete it. Read our Children’s Privacy and Parents’ Guide for more.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run AppVerse Games, and only for the purposes in this policy.
| Provider | What it does for us | Where it processes data |
|---|---|---|
| HostAfrica | Hosts the website, keeps server logs, carries our email | South Africa |
| Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) | Google Analytics through Site Kit, AdSense advertising on the website, and AdMob advertising in our apps when they launch | Worldwide, including the United States |
| Ko-fi and its payment partners (PayPal or Stripe) | Handles voluntary support payments from adults. We never see your card details | United Kingdom and worldwide |
| Google Play and Microsoft Store | Distribute our apps and process payments for paid games and subscriptions, under their own privacy policies | Worldwide |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or to a buyer if AppVerse Games is ever sold. A buyer would have to honour this policy.
Sending information to other countries
Our providers process information outside South Africa and outside your own country, including in the United States. We rely on providers whose contracts or binding rules give your information protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires. For information from the EEA, UK and Switzerland, our providers use standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Server logs | 6 months |
| Analytics data | 2 months |
| Cookie consent record | 6 months, then we ask again |
| Messages you send us | Up to 12 months after our last reply |
| Supporter, purchase and financial records | 5 years, as South African tax law requires |
| Game data on your device | Until you clear your browser storage or uninstall the app |
How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted administrator access, software updates and backups. No website can promise perfect security. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you and give you a copy;
- correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed;
- stop processing that is based on our legitimate interest, by objecting;
- stop using your information for direct marketing;
- treat a consent as withdrawn. This does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.
Email play@appversegames.com. Requests are free. We may ask for enough detail to confirm who you are, and we reply within 30 days. A parent or guardian can make these requests for their child.

POPIA gives you the rights above, and the right to complain to the Information Regulator. Complaints are lodged through the Regulator’s eServices portal.

In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office. EU authorities are listed by the European Data Protection Board.
United States
We do not sell personal information for money. Some state laws treat advertising cookies as “sharing” or “targeted advertising”. You can opt out by rejecting advertising cookies in our cookie settings. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

We do not send newsletters or marketing messages. If we start a newsletter, we will send it only to people who sign up for it, and every message will have an unsubscribe link.
