How to play Mathdoku
Mathdoku is a number puzzle that mixes logic with arithmetic. Fill the grid so that no digit repeats in any row or column. On a 6×6 grid you use the digits 1 to 6. The grid is divided into outlined groups of cells called cages. Each cage shows a target number and an operation, and the digits in that cage must reach the target using that operation.
- A cage marked 7+ must add up to 7. A cage marked 12× must multiply to 12.
- For subtraction and division the order does not matter. A 2− cage can hold 5 and 3 either way round.
- A digit can repeat inside a cage, as long as it is not in the same row or column.
- Tap a cell, then tap a digit to place it. Use Notes to mark possible digits, Hint when you are stuck and Erase to clear a cell.

- Easy: addition and multiplication only.
- Medium: all four operations.
- Hard: a 6×6 grid with all four operations.
- Insane: a 6×6 grid with very large cages.
Tips for beginners
- Fill single-cell cages first. A cage with one cell simply tells you its digit.
- Look for cages with one possible answer. On a 6×6 grid, two cells that add to 3 must be 1 and 2, and two cells that multiply to 30 must be 5 and 6.
- Use the row and column rule. Once a digit is placed, it cannot appear again in that row or column. This often settles which way round a pair goes.
- Remember the totals. Every row and column on a 6×6 grid adds up to 21. If you know five cells, the sixth is whatever is left.
- Break multiplication targets into factors. A cage that multiplies to 20 must contain a 5, because no other digits from 1 to 6 can make it.
- Use Notes. Mark every digit a cell could hold, then remove marks as the cells around it fill in.
- Don’t guess. A wrong digit can stay hidden for many moves. Re-check the cages, or use a hint.
